World Linen founder Milton Jupiter started working in textiles in 1964, when the industry’s gross sales were larger than the entire banking industry. Jupiter was only 18 when he got his first job as a sample boy for the largest printer of textiles in the world: M. Lowenstein & Sons Inc. in New York City. After four years paying his dues, he was transferred to the sales department as a Junior Sales Trainee. He learned the garment industry, the home sewing industry, the retail decorative industry, and used his textile experience to create business in all of the above.
When Milton Jupiter – then an independent textile representative – approached a Los Angeles-based framing supplier to sell him velvet, Jupiter instead discovered a large inventory of linen that he felt could be sold in a more diversified way. Along with the end of the Cold War and the opening of Russia to the world, Jupiter created avenues for importing linen textiles into the United States. World Linen & Textile was established soon thereafter in 1994.
Since 1994, Jupiter has personally overseen all aspects of World Linen’s growth. Family-owned, and locally operated since it’s beginnings, World Linen offers boutique-style service at reasonable prices. World Linen’s fabrics can be found in the finest homes – including the White House – not to mention a broad range of industries covering many lifestyles.
While our online catalog is a great way to get acquainted with our products, the best way to see the true color and weave of our fabrics is to purchase a Linen Legends Swatch Book. Click on For Professionals for more information.
